Thomas R. Harry, 69, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, surrounded by his adoring family. He was born and spent his early life in New Brunswick, NJ before moving to Trenton, NJ where he raised his daughters. He remained a resident of Mercer County, NJ for the last 35 years.
Thomas had a distinguished professional career, the highlight of which was being awarded several patents at AT&T Bell Laboratories. Forced to retire from Lockheed Martin in 2016 due to a tragic accident, he spent the last 7 years conquering many seemingly insurmountable challenges as a quadriplegic. Through it all, Thomas was a true fighter and will forever be remembered by his friends and family for his unwavering strength and perseverance.
Thomas’ first love was the ocean. He was a proud, disabled veteran of the United States Navy, serving in special operations and receiving the Purple Heart and three commendations for meritorious service during the Vietnam War. Summer vacations with his family were always spent at the Jersey shore and his favorite hobbies included fishing and crabbing. He spent countless weekends in Tuckerton, NJ on his fishing boat, lovingly named, “Patty Ann,” after his wife.
Thomas is predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Harry, his parents, Frank and Helen Harry, his beloved cousin, Mary Lou Hary, his granddaughter, Daniela Mills, and his two dogs, Cookie and Navy. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisalynn and Julian Ochoa, of Hamilton, NJ, his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Matthew Mills, of Cave Springs, Arkansas, his grandson and namesake, Dylan Thomas Ochoa, his granddaughters, Catalina Hope Ochoa, Abigail Ann Mills, and Mia Helena Mills, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Diane Harry, of Bayville, NJ, and his brother, sister-in-law, and niece, James, Donna, and Allison Harry, of Free Home, Georgia.
In his final years, Thomas’ greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. He was an essential presence in their lives and wouldn’t miss the opportunity to play checkers with Dylan, watch Catalina practice her dance routines, share his Hershey Kisses with Abigail, or play peek-a-boo with Mia.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 25th from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. at the Hamilton Brenna–Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd., Hamilton, NJ with funeral services to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Thomas’ name to the Kessler Foundation.
