Thomas Bryan Obituary

Thomas P. Bryan, 82, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on May 14, 1941. After graduating Holy Trinity High School, he went on to obtain his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and his J.D. from Seton Hall University. He married his high-school sweetheart, Geraldine (Tomalavage) Bryan in 1965 and they moved to Hamilton in 1967.

In 1967 Tom started his 35-year career as a dedicated public servant working for the State of New Jersey. He began his work in the Office of Legislative Services. He eventually transitioned to the Division of Pension and Benefits, where he assumed the directorship before his retirement. Tom loved singing and was a member of several groups over the years, most recently with the Hamiltonians. He was a member of the Humanist Group of Willow Grove, and attended the Hamilton YMCA for many years. Tom also enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing poker, watching sports and old movies, and listening to Irish music. But mostly he cherished spending time with his family.

Son of the late Joseph William and Catherine (Faser) Bryan; brother of the late Winifred Canavan, Maureen Murphy, Mildred Ciencin, and Kevin Bryan. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Geraldine (Tomalavage) Bryan; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lara Lyn Bryan-Rest and husband Michael Rest, and Jenna Marie Bryan-Krug and husband Christopher Krug; five grandchildren, Alexis, Jack, and Baxter Rest, and Connor and Tyler Krug; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather (Poppy), brother, uncle, and friend to all.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619. Please consider wearing colorful clothing (or green) to the viewing, as Tom would have enjoyed that. Tom was a big supporter of youth sports, and loved to watch his kids and grandkids play. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to your local sports organization, or to the Hamilton PAL where he coached his daughters. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering in May, with details to follow later.
