Scott Brown Obituary

Scott Parker Brown, of Hamilton, New Jersey, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the age of 58. A lifelong New Jersey resident, Scott was born in Woodbury before moving to Mercer County in 1991. Scott often talked about his childhood, spending summers fishing with his grandparents on the St. Lawrence River. Scott graduated from West Deptford High School in 1983 and Elizabethtown College in 1987,then went on to work for the State of NJ, Department of Labor & Workforce Development, where he remained for 34 years, most recently in the Division of Unemployment Insurance.

Scott was a devoted and enormously proud husband and father, who could always be found coaching his son's soccer and baseball games or cheering his daughter on during a dance competition. He treasured his time with his family, and was extremely involved with his children, instilling in them a foundation of integrity, competition and compassion. Family vacations to Hilton Head, SC, Long Beach Island, NJ, Orlando, Fl and Rome, Italy were among his greatest memories. He loved spending time with close friends, among whom his wit and sense of humor were legendary. His larger than life smile, love of food and generous nature were well known to not only his family and friends, but to all who knew him. He made friends wherever he went. He was the first to volunteer and always willing to lend a hand, participating for many years in both the Hamilton Township Recreational Soccer Association and the Hamilton Township Recreational Baseball Association. Coaching the travel soccer team, The Rowdies, made for some of Scott's favorite times. Scott loved to golf and played for many years with his colleagues in the Department of Labor Golf Team and his son, Stephen.

Scott is preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Eleanor (Doherty) O’Shea; his sister-in-law, Teresa Hohmann; and his brother-in-law, J. Brian O’Shea. Scott is survived by his parents, James and Sandra (Parker) Brown of Woodbury, NJ; his loving wife of nearly 32 years, Ellen (O’Shea) Brown; his son, Stephen Brown and wife Anna; his daughter, Megan Brown; his sister, Stacy and husband Paul Jarrett; his three brothers-in-law, C. Michael O'Shea and wife Lea, D. Patrick O'Shea and wife Donna, and Larry Hohmann; two sisters-in-law, Catherine O’Shea; and Charlene Anderson and husband Patrick.

Scott will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, as well as his dear friends who were like family and with whom he shared decades of laughter and adventures, neighbors, and colleagues with whom he worked, who he considered friends. His courageous spirit and passion for life will be remembered always.
