Lucy Russo Obituary

Lucy A. Russo

Owner, Russo Music Center

Lucy A. (DiGuiseppi) Russo, 86, passed away peacefully Monday, November 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, at Morris Hall Meadows in Lawrenceville, NJ, following a very lengthy illness.

Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, Lucy resided in Princeton Junction for forty plus years. Previously, she was a resident of Hamilton Township, where she and her beloved husband, Stephen Russo, owned and operated Russo Music for over 50 years, prior to her illness in 2007. Lucy graduated from Trenton High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, her deceased husband, Stephen J. Russo. The two of them played in the school band - Lucy was a first chair violinist and Steve played the accordion. It was love at first sight and the two became inseparable. They were childhood sweethearts and shortly after graduating high school, they married in 1956 and started a family.

Lucy and Steve founded Russo Music Center in 1960 and opened their first location on South Broad Street in Trenton NJ. As the business grew, Russo Music Hamilton relocated to its current location at 1989 Arena Drive. Through the years, the company has continued to expand, opening Russo Music Asbury Park in 2010, located on Lake Drive, Asbury Park, NJ; and Russo Music Philadelphia in 2021, located on Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA.

In addition to Lucy’s love for music and retail, she had a flare for fashion and style. Prior to the growth of Russo Music, she was the Store Manager for Stacy Shops, a women’s boutique clothing store located in Trenton and Lawrenceville NJ, in the 1970’s

Prior to Lucy’s illness, she and her husband loved to travel. Some of their favorite and most memorable vacations included Italy, Japan, Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean and ABC islands, a trip to Disney World with their grandchildren, and a flight on the Concorde. Lucy’s greatest passion was her love for her family. She adored her beloved husband, treasured her time with her two daughters and cherished her time with her two grandchildren who were the “light of her life.”  She and Steve loved spending time with the grandchildren, taking them to the finest restaurants, and showering them with gifts. Lucy was also a great cook and loved hosting family gatherings, especially holidays and summer pool parties for her family and friends. She was known for making the BEST pastas, especially her homemade gnocchi’s.

Daughter of the late Katherine (Persichetti) and Florenz DiGuiseppi; wife of the late Stephen J. Russo, who passed away October 10, 2014, after 58 years of marriage; sister of the late Frank and Francesco DiGuiseppi, and sister-in-law of the late Peter M. Russo. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Russo of Hamilton, NJ and Michelle (James) Forester of Yardley, PA; two grandchildren, Stephen (Chloe) Forester of Doylestown, PA and Briana Forester of Dublin, PA; two great grandchildren, Harper Grey and Greyson James Forester; a sister and brother-in-law, Nina and Daniel Gowaty of Princeton, NJ; a sister-in-law, Rose Crisci of Pompton Plains, NJ; a brother-in-law, John Russo of Broomall, PA; a Goddaughter, Christina Kostis; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A special thanks to the staff at Morris Hall Meadows for their love and care for Lucy and their support to her family.
