Lucille Martin, 91, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Serenity Hospice Care at RWJUH, Hamilton, NJ.
Born in Suffolk, VA, Lucille moved to Hackensack, NJ where she attended high school, and lived for over 50 years. Lucille worked in the Dietary Department at Hackensack Hospital for 40 years, working her way up from the food line to being the lead Purchaser of the department.
Lucille was an avid reader, loved word puzzles and listening to music (Nat King Cole was her favorite). She also enjoyed sitting outside, whether it be at the beach watching the water or anywhere outside where it was peaceful. Lucille was a devoted mother and loved taking spontaneous trips with her daughter to visit the family down south, going to museums, gardens, the beach, anywhere that was fun and displayed nature’s beauty. To celebrate her retirement, Lucille and her daughter traveled by train across the county where they started a tour of the parks and canyons. They had a wonderful time.
Lucille was a strong and beautiful woman, both inside and out and she had a passion for life. Her smile was infectious and she made a lasting impression on everyone she met. A wonderful memory that many have of her, especially the nieces and nephews, is the candy dish on her coffee table. Lucille was a wonderful cook. All that came over for a visit left full and loved.
Lucille is predeceased by her parents Hattie and John Mills, her 10 siblings, and her first husband Kearney Williams. She is survived by her daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Maximo Briceno, her sister-in-law Shirley Mills, sister-in-law Alma Williams Cook, and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wishes to express their heart-felt gratitude to all her caregivers and the entire staff at Avalon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Hamilton, NJ (formerly Hamilton Continuing Care Center), where she resided for over 10 years. They truly became part of our family.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 3:30 PM with Pastor David Cox officiating at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday from 2:00 PM until the time of services. Please visit Lucille’s tribute page at www.brennacellinifuneralhomes.com
