James Doughty Obituary

James J Doughty, 66, of Lawrence Township, New Jersey, died peacefully on May 11, 2023 following a brief illness.

James, known to family and friends as Jimmy, was born to Frank and Mary Doughty on August 21, 1956 at Union Hospital in Bronx, New York. After graduating high school, Jimmy went on to enlist in the U.S. Navy and after his service, continued to serve his country as a civilian via his work at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard until its closure in 1996. He then enjoyed a long career with Dematic Corp., working as Site Manager for Wakefern Foods in Jamesburg, New Jersey.

Jimmy had a strong appreciation for life’s simple pleasures and when not working or tinkering with his car, enjoyed being by the water, fishing, and swimming in the ocean. Jimmy could often be found sitting on his front porch reading the newspaper accompanied by his faithful dog, Rosie. Jimmy had a penchant for crossword puzzles, cryptograms, and being the eyes and ears of the neighborhood. Those who knew Jimmy best would attest to his straight-shooter personality, and his willingness to help others without hesitation or expectation. He consistently offered valuable lessons to those around him, such as “It is what it is” and the essential reminder to always ask for cheese on your cheese fries. His presence will be sorely missed by his family, human and animal friends alike.

Jimmy is survived by his long-time partner, Julie LoStocco and her son Michael; siblings John Patrick, Shelia (John), and Caroline; his children Erin, Kimberly, and Elaina; and grandchildren Johnny, Brooke, Ryan, Lila, and Andrew.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary, as well as his brother Francis.
