Barbara Ann Gusz, 93, of Ewing Township, NJ, entered into her eternal rest with the Lord on Good Friday, March 29, 2024 surrounded by her devoted family while at home. She lived a beautiful life filled with love for family and enriched by many lifelong friends. Barbara received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) where she met the love of her life, John F. Gusz. They made an incredible team until his untimely death in 1989 after 39 years of marriage.
Barbara began her teaching career in Bergenfield, NJ and went on to become a second grade teacher in the Ewing Township School District at the Alfred Reed School. She also taught remedial reading part-time for several years.
A long-time member of the Ewing Kiwanis and the Ewing Women’s Clubs, Barbara loved reading, playing cards, trips to Atlantic City, the Jersey Shore, and flowers. Most of all, she and John served as the ultimate role models for their children Patricia Hartpence (husband Marvin) of West Amwell, NJ and Dr. John R. Gusz (wife Mindy) of Hudson, OH, lovingly providing guidance and encouragement in every step of their lives.
Daughter of the late Anthony Robert and Anna Belle (Albertson) Hutchinson, besides her children, Barbara is survived by four grandchildren, Timothy Hartpence and wife Kristen, Ryan Hartpence, Nikki Gusz and husband Brian Connolly, and Daniel Gusz and wife Danielle Fernandes; four great-grandchildren, Max Hartpence, Jack and Zoe Gusz, and Edmund Connolly; a sister, Mary Ainsworth; nieces Marjorie Robinson and Mary Ann Unger and nephew Bill Ainsworth as well as other family and friends. The family wishes to especially thank Marion McKinney for the extraordinary care she provided to Barbara during her lengthy illness. Serenity Hospice was also an invaluable support as Barbara neared her time of transition.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday morning April 6, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ 08638. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W. Upper Ferry Rd., Ewing, NJ. Burial will follow in Ewing Cemetery, 78 Scotch Rd., Ewing, NJ.
