Florence Irene (Guthrie) Johnson

Florence Irene Johnson, 91, of Ewing, NJ, entered into her eternal rest with the Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Trenton, NJ, Florence was a lifelong area resident.  Florence mastered several careers throughout her lifetime, with her more recent positions spanning 35 years in the field of credit management. Florence was the Credit Manager of the former Hamilton Hospital, and later retired from a 15-year career as Credit Manager of the Princeton University Store. While at Princeton, Florence was beloved, not only by her colleagues and faculty, but also the students, whom she was delighted to mentor in the finesse of managing their finances throughout their college years. She made such a positive impact on these students, that many continued to correspond with her, even to this day.  

Florence adored making a positive impact on people’s lives, particularly those of young people and fellow seniors. She participated in many creative writing and autobiographical writing groups in Ewing and Lawrence Townships. She also enjoyed auditing literature classes at Ewing High School, where she was able to share her ideas, dreams, and passions with fellow students.  Florence generously volunteered for decades with Senior Net and lead classes for her local seniors in the areas of computer science, internet navigation and identity theft protection. 

Florence is preceded in death by her mother, Caroline Guthrie; her step-grandson, Christopher Johnson, and her dear friend, Eleanore De Young formerly of Hamilton, NJ.  
Florence leaves behind to treasure her memory her beloved husband of 32 years, Harry J. Johnson, Sr.; her daughter, Valerie Shelby Ward; her two step-children, Harry J. Johnson, Jr. and wife Kathie, and Kathleen Allen; two grandchildren, Tyler Bourke, and Lacey Neskes; three step-grandchildren, Kenneth and Brianna Allen, and Harry (Skip) Johnson, III; one great grandchild, Emmanuel Neskes; one step great grandchild, Riley Elizabeth Allen, as well as many other family and friends.

Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ 08638.  Christian prayer services will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Wil Kauffman of the Grace Community Church of the Nazarene officiating.  Interment will follow in Ewing Cemetery, 78 Scotch Rd., Ewing, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Florence’s memory to EASEL Animal Rescue League (the no-kill animal shelter), 4 Jake Garzio Dr., Ewing, NJ 08628.
